Tide Pools
|
Visiting the tidepools at Pillar Point, near Half Moon Bay, was a freezing cold
and wet experience, but we were all smiling because we had such a
great time!
|
|
Lilla and Shanna discovered many tidepool
animals. Lilla has a turban snail crawling
on her hand. The pool was home to many purple sea urchins.
|
|
Christina, Felicia, and Dorris have
discovered brightly colored nudibranchs, a type of sea slug.
|
|
There's a hermit crab in that jar!!!!
It was really cool to observe. Being careful not to impact the
area, we put it back in the same pool where we found it.

This sea star is eating a mussel.
It pries the mussel off the rock with its many strong tube feet
then sends its jelly like stomach outside of its mouth to creep in
between the tiny crack between the mussel shells and digest the soft
insides.

Here's Donnie and one of our teachers,
